How Google's Search Algorithm works

How Google's Search Algorithm works:

The story of Google’s algorithm begins with PageRank, the system invented in 1997 by cofounder Larry Page while he was a grad student at Stanford. Page’s now legendary insight was to rate pages based on the number and importance of links that pointed to them — to use the collective intelligence of the Web itself to determine which sites were most relevant. It was a simple and powerful concept, and — as Google quickly became the most successful search engine on the Web — Page and cofounder Sergey Brin credited PageRank as their company’s fundamental innovation.

Google Websearch Process:

Web search is a multipart process:

First, Google crawls the Web to collect the contents of every accessible site. This data is broken down into an index (organized by word, just like the index of a textbook), a way of finding any page based on its content. Every time a user types a query, the index is combed for relevant pages, returning a list that commonly numbers in the hundreds of thousands, or millions. The trickiest part, though, is the ranking process — determining which of those pages belong at the top of the list.

Google’s massive computing power and bandwidth give the company an undeniable edge. Some observers say it’s an advantage that essentially prohibits startups from trying to compete. But Manber says it’s not infrastructure alone that makes Google the leader: “The very, very, very key ingredient in all of this is that we hired the right people.”

Handling Errors in Actionscript 3 | Flash CS5 try catch in Flash Player

Flash Player 8.5 supports a try/catch methodology for handling errors in ActionScript. That means you can write code that can intelligently deal with certain error types should they occur. While you cannot handle syntax errors (the .swf won't even compile in that case), you can handle most other error types, such as missing or invalid data. The benefit is that you can attempt to resolve the situation programmatically.

Use a throw statement to throw an error when it is detected. Place any potentially error-generating code within a try block, and then have one or more corresponding catch blocks to handle possible errors.

An example situation:

Suppose we are creating an email application in flash actionscript 3.0 using smtp. We have

  1. To
  2. Subject
  3. messase box

We need the above three as input from user, the first input "To" to whom we are going to mail is mandatory list. so if user forgot to type any mail id or if the typed mail id is not valid then we need to throw an error and exception, must handle error in actionscript.

There are two basic parts involved in working with errors in ActionScript: throwing the error and catching the error. There are several errors, which are thrown automatically by the player, such as IllegalOperationError, MemoryError, and ScriptTimeoutError.

Assign IPV6 Registries, Implement and enable IPV6

In the same way your phone is associated with a unique number, your computer is assigned a unique Internet Protocol (IP) address when you connect to the Internet. The current protocol, IPv4, allows for approximately 4 billion unique addresses—and that number is about to run out.

This morning the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) announced that it has distributed the last batch of its remaining IPv4 addresses to the world’s five Regional Internet Registries, the organizations that manage IP addresses in different regions. These Registries will begin assigning the final IPv4 addresses within their regions until they run out completely, which could come as soon as early 2012.

As the last blocks of IPv4 addresses are assigned, adoption of a new protocol—IPv6—is essential to the continued growth of the open Internet. IPv6 will expand Internet address space to 128 bits, making room for approximately 340 trillion addresses (enough to last us for the foreseeable future).

Google, along with others, has been working for years to implement the larger IPv6 format. We’re also participating in the planned World IPv6 Day, scheduled for June 8, 2011. On this day, all of the participating organizations will enable access to as many services as possible via IPv6.

Today’s ICANN announcement marks a major milestone in the history of the Internet. IPv6, the next chapter, is now under way.

Honeycomb - Android3.0 for tablet devices - Google Android

ANDROID 3.0 - HONEYCOMB

Google will be holding a press event next Wednesday, February 2, at its Mountain View headquarters to show off Android Honeycomb, the company’s tablet-optimized OS.

The stage presentations will begin at 10:00 a.m. PT. Google is calling it the event “A Taste of What’s New from Android.”

What is Android - HoneyComb?

Honeycomb is the next version of the Android platform, designed from the ground up for devices with larger screen sizes, particularly tablets. We’ve spent a lot of time refining the user experience in Honeycomb, and we’ve developed a brand new, truly virtual and holographic user interface. Many of Android’s existing features will really shine on Honeycomb: refined multi-tasking, elegant notifications, access to over 100,000 apps on Android Market, home screen customization with a new 3D experience and redesigned widgets that are richer and more interactive. We’ve also made some powerful upgrades to the web browser, including tabbed browsing, form auto-fill, syncing with your Google Chrome bookmarks, and incognito mode for private browsing.

The Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS will be built for both mobile phones and tablets, but speaking truly as the reports have it will be the first Android version that’ll be built for the tablets specifically. The Honeycomb as we have said will come with an improved user interface, a clear app page and a new email interface, which could resemble the Gmail app for the iPad, where in the landscape mode, the inbox is displayed on the left side of the tablet’s screen while the message occupies the rest of the space on the right. Besides the aforementioned feature there’s a solid belief suggesting that the video chat facility, which may have been missed in the Gingerbread, could find place in the forthcoming Honeycomb.

Google Offers as competitor for Groupon - Google Launching

After spurning Google’s offer, Groupon had to be expecting today’s news. We doubt Groupon would have rejected Google’s offer if it didn’t have a plan for competing with Google. While I admit that is my own hypothesis, Mason has proven more than capable of predicting major technology and business trends. I think it’s a safe bet to say that Groupon is prepared for (and not scared of) Google’s entry in its market.

Groupon :

Groupon also has a huge head start, thanks to its massive sales force, home-grown name recognition and $1+ billion in funding. CEO Andrew Mason and his team have proven that they can outperform the competition, despite having a product that can be easily copied. Google, on the other hand, has yet to prove that it can build a successful social product.

The group-buying giant is also diversifying. It recently launched Groupon Stores, a self-serve deal platform so that businesses can create their own stores. It also released the Deal Feed to combat deal saturation.

Google Offers :

Google Offers is a new product to help potential customers and clientele find great deals in their area through a daily email.

For Google, the daily deals market is all about developing a stronger local advertiser network. Here’s what I said when the news about Google’s $6 billion offer to Groupon first broke:

“If Google goes through with the biggest purchase in the company’s history, it will have the upper hand in local business advertising. That advantage could be so great that the courts stop this acquisition from ever happening. That’s why Google wants Groupon so badly that it’s willing to overpay by billions; if all goes according to plan, the search giant will be flooded with so much local advertising revenue that it will be able to buy a dozen Groupons.”

Google already has a major advertising network through AdWords and AdSense, but it isn’t focused on local. Still, it’s a very good starting point for launching a daily deals business. By integrating daily deals into its advertising network, Google can quickly and easily gain exposure with businesses. In fact, it probably could get enough local businesses to sign up just through word of mouth.
